The first day of the school was marked on January 3, 1952; since then, the school has always trodden on this path of evolution, hence keeping pace with the changing times in education, while not letting go of its fundamental values and traditions.

Historical Overview

MHS started with a dream to offer young women great instruction so that they could deftly negotiate and help society, therefore the foundation was launched with this in mind. Reflecting its dedication to academic excellence and adaptability, the school has changed from an early tie with the state board to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). MHS has also founded Modern High School International, providing world programs to meet many student needs in line with worldwide educational trends.

Leadership and Administration

The leadership at MHS plays a pivotal role in steering the institution towards continuous growth and excellence. The administrative team comprises:

Academic Curriculum

The academic programs of MHS are wide-ranging in nature and would seriously match the various interests and aspirations of students. The school maintains CISCE norms for ICSE (Classes 9 & 10) as well as for ISC (Classes 11 & 12) examinations.

ICSE (Classes 9 & 10)

The curriculum is structured into three groups:

  • Group 1 (Compulsory):
    • English
    • Second Language (Hindi/Bengali)
    • History, Civics & Geography
  • Group 2:
    • Mathematics (Mandatory at MHS)
    • Options include Science (Physics, Chemistry & Biology), Environmental Science, Economics, and Commercial Studies.
  • Group 3:
    • Students choose one subject from options like Art, Commercial Applications, Computer Applications, Economic Applications, German, Home Science, and Fashion Design.

In addition to this, physical education, SAPW and community services are mandatory for students. This highlights the importance given to one’s physical well-being and social responsibility.

The MHS English School-ISC (Classes 11 & 12) incorporates the National Educational Policy (NEP) of 2020 and offers flexible subject combinations without rigid stream distinctions, allowing students to tailor their courses according to individual interests and careers. The following subjects are compulsory:

First Language English (Language & Literature)

Second Language Hindi/Bengali

Students will then select one elective subject from the following groups:

Elective 1: Accounts, Home Science, Legal Studies, Physics, Sociology, Geography;

Elective 2: Chemistry, Commerce, Political Science;

Elective 3: Business Studies, Elective English, Fashion Design, Psychology; 

Elective 4: Art, Biology, Business Studies, Mathematics, Computer Science, Sociology, Economics, History.

Thus, this approach provides an opportunity for the students to explore educational areas while allowing them a holistic educational experience.
